Hawthorn fruits are nobody's favorite, but they stay on the tree and are valuable emergency food.Golden-crowned kinglets are the smallest of our winter birds. They are often very tame and can be seen feeding on insects and spiders, usually in softwoods.
After the first deep snow, deer will head for deeryards, usually south- or west-facing slopes with dense softwood cover.
You can confidently blame the porcupine for any extensive barking high in a tree.
