Wildlife Course for Teachers, July 12-17, Woodbury, VT

WHAT: Vermont's Fish & Wildlife Course for Educators
Fish and Wildlife Management for Educators, a one-week, three-credit graduate course will be presented by the Fish & Wildlife Department. The hands-on field course gets educators out into Vermont's streams, forests and wetlands with some of the state's leading natural resource experts.

Featured field activities:
Fisheries Lab – water quality analysis, electro-fishing, invertebrate sampling on Monday, 13th, from 1:00-6:00 p.m. Call 472-5066 at Buck Lake for Ali Thomas to make arrangements.
Forest and Wildlife Habitat Management field trip, Tuesday, 14th, from 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Wetlands Lab – wetland ecology at nearby marsh on Wednesday, 1th from 12:30-6:00 p.m. Call Ali Thomas as above.

WHERE: at the Buck Lake Conservation Camp north of Woodbury, east
off Route 14. There is a sign on the right –"Green Mountain Conservation
Camp."

"Wildlife resources are important to all Vermonters in one way or another," said Thomas. "If teachers can get connected with the outdoors and in turn expose their students, then many of these youngsters will be able to make informed decisions about Vermont wildlife and their habitat needs as adults."

"This course is unique in that it helps teachers from any discipline, whether it is math, language arts, physical education, or history, to improve their instructional strategies and make their lesson plans more relevant to their students," says Thomas. "Participants normally start the week with some skepticism about the course, but within a day or two, they become very enthusiastic. Often, teachers proclaim the course to be one of the best they have ever had and feel highly motivated to go back teaching in the fall."
