NWTF Sponsors National Hunting and Fishing Day

Posted by Wayne G. Barber
EDGEFIELD, S.C. — The National Wild Turkey Federation encourages everyone to participate in National Hunting and Fishing Day – a day set aside to celebrate all that sportsmen and women do to support conservation and the pursuit of outdoor sports.

On Saturday, Sept. 24, NWTF-sponsored NHF Day events will take place across the country, allowing the general public to experience hunting, fishing and shooting sports while learning about America's conservation successes.

"The NWTF is actively working to Save the Habitat and Save the Hunt though our national initiative, but we know we cannot do it alone," said NWTF CEO George Thornton. "It will take a collaborative effort for us to preserve our hunting heritage, and events such as National Hunting and Fishing Day – where the entire outdoor industry comes together to promote our life style – play a huge role in offering outdoor opportunities to new audiences."

Though they may not be aware of it, hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts contribute the majority of funding for conservation efforts. Through licenses, permits and special taxes, hunters and anglers generate more than $1.75 billion per year for fish, wildlife and habitat. No one contributes more for conservation.

"NWTF is joining us once again to support America's top conservationists," said Misty Mitchell, national coordinator for National Hunting and Fishing Day. "They have been the standard when it comes to stepping up to the plate for conservation. Most of us don't realize the NWTF runs many programs to promote responsible conservation. Their continued support means the world to NHF Day."

In addition to support events for NHF Day, the NWTF Hunting Heritage Programs — JAKES, Women in the Outdoors and Wheelin' Sportsmen — host events throughout the year to help people of all ages and experience levels enjoy a day outdoors. NWTF events feature expert instructors who guide participants in the safe participation of a wide range of activities, including shooting, archery and fishing. About Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt.
The NWTF Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt. initiative is a charge that mobilizes science, fundraising and devoted volunteers to give the NWTF more energy and purpose than ever. Through this national initiative, NWTF has committed to raising $1.2 billion to conserve or enhance 4 million acres of essential upland wildlife habitat, create 1.5 million hunters and open access to 500,000 acres for hunting, shooting and outdoor enjoyment. Without hunters, there will be no wildlife or habitat. The NWTF is determined to Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt.
