An age-old escape from day-to-day stress (and a modern escape from screens), a good day of fishing offers equal parts relaxation, anticipation, and reward. Out on the water, surrounded by mountains and pines, you can make priceless outdoor memories, teach kids lifelong lessons — and if you’re lucky, rehash it all over a fresh-caught dinner.

Free fishing in Maine is coming up this weekend! On Saturday, February 17 and Sunday, February 18any person may fish for free without a license on Maine’s waterways, (except those who have had their license suspended or revoked). This is the perfect opportunity to give fishing in Maine a try or, if you're an experienced angler, grab a friend or family member and take them out for a day of fun and learning!

Just remember, all other rules and regulations, including bag and possession limits, apply.

You can review Maine's open water and ice fishing laws quickly and easily by visiting mefishwildlife.com/fishinglaws

Because the weather has been variable this winter, ice conditions can be unpredictable. Be sure to check the ice carefully before venturing out onto it.

We hope this weekend offers you the opportunity to make some wonderful memories in the Maine outdoors!
